Number Guess: Shrink the Range
Track explicit bounds and choose the midpoint after every clue.

The hidden value starts between 1 and 100. Maintain a low and high bound that are still possible. If 50 is too low, the new interval begins at 51. If 75 is too high, it ends at 74. Excluding the guessed number prevents wasted repeats.
Choose the midpoint
A midpoint removes roughly half of the remaining candidates regardless of whether the clue says higher or lower. For 51–74, choose 62 or 63. Guessing near one edge may feel intuitive, but a wrong result leaves almost the entire interval alive.
Handle odd ranges consistently
When two middle integers are possible, always choose the lower or always choose the upper. Consistency makes your bounds easier to audit. For 10–14, either 12 is exact center; for 10–15, choose 12 by a lower-mid rule and update carefully from there.
Check the information limit
A range of 100 numbers can be resolved in at most seven midpoint guesses because each clue approximately halves the candidates. If a round takes much longer, inspect your bound updates. The usual causes are keeping an eliminated endpoint, choosing off-center guesses, or forgetting the latest clue.
