Quick Dots: Count in Groups
Encode a brief dot display as a few spatial groups instead of isolated objects.

Imagine the display split into left, center, and right zones. When dots appear, estimate each zone separately. Three small quantities such as 4–3–2 are easier to retain than nine unrelated positions. Use the same zones every round.
Recognize familiar shapes
Pairs, triangles, squares, and groups of five can be counted as units. A tight square is four without checking each dot one by one. Combine shape recognition with zone totals: a square on the left plus three scattered dots on the right becomes 4+3.
Add only after the display ends
Trying to maintain a running total while your eyes are still scanning can make you lose the final cluster. First encode each zone, then add the remembered quantities during the answer phase. Repeat the zone sequence once—left, center, right—before selecting a total.
Identify undercount patterns
If answers are often one or two below the correct total, you may be missing isolated edge dots or merging nearby dots into one group. If totals are too high, you may be counting a cluster twice while rescanning. Use the error direction to adjust the next viewing strategy.
