How to Compare Browser Reaction Times Fairly
A reaction-time number looks precise, but the number includes more than a person's response. It also includes the browser event loop, display refresh, input hardware, and the decision to click. Starbox Quick Reflex measures elapsed browser time after a visible green signal; it is an entertainment result, not a medical or scientific assessment. This note explains how to make repeated results more comparable without pretending that a browser game can remove device latency.

What this note examined
We reviewed the Quick Reflex timing path, false-start branch, randomized waiting interval, and the existing five-attempt worked example. The comparison protocol below uses only behavior visible in the current build: valid attempts begin after the green state, early clicks are rejected, and each result is reported in milliseconds. No claim is made that the browser clock measures nerve conduction or laboratory-grade reaction time.
Use the median, not the single best click
A personal best rewards the most favorable combination of attention, device timing, and chance. It can also reward anticipation that happened to land just after the signal. Five valid attempts provide a more useful small sample. Sort the results and report the middle value. For 218, 224, 231, 246, and 310 milliseconds, the median is 231. The slow 310 result still describes the session, but it does not pull the middle value upward as strongly as it would pull an average. Keep the full set when you want to see consistency; keep the median when you need one cautious summary.
Hold the device and input method constant
A mouse click, trackpad press, touchscreen tap, and keyboard event travel through different hardware and software paths. A 60 Hz display also presents the signal in larger time steps than a faster display. Compare sessions only when the device, browser, display, input method, and screen orientation remain the same. If any of those change, start a new comparison group instead of treating the new number as a direct improvement. This rule is more important than squeezing another attempt into the same session because it prevents a hardware change from being misread as a human change.
Reject anticipation instead of celebrating it
Quick Reflex uses a randomized wait of roughly 1.4 to 3.6 seconds. The variation makes a fixed rhythm less useful, but it cannot prevent every guess. An early click is explicitly treated as a false start and produces no reaction result. A suspiciously fast valid result should be kept in the raw list but should not become the only reported number. Repeated attempts reveal whether the result is typical. If a player alternates between false starts and one spectacular click, the pattern describes anticipation pressure more than reliable response speed.
Stop before fatigue changes the task
Long sessions add a second variable: the player may become tired, bored, tense, or unusually familiar with the visual transition. Use one short set, pause, and compare another set later under similar conditions. Record the date, device, browser, input method, and five valid values. The goal is not to produce an impressive number; it is to make the conditions clear enough that another session can be interpreted honestly. A result without its conditions is only a score, while a result with conditions can support a limited comparison.
LIMITATIONS
What this article does not establish
This protocol improves consistency but does not turn Starbox into a diagnostic instrument. Network delay is not part of the click measurement after the page loads, but local display, browser, operating-system, and input latency remain. Do not use the result to diagnose a condition, certify ability, or compare people using different equipment.
